In 2022, the number of full-time candidates taking the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) further declined to approximately 43,000, reaching a new low in history. With fewer candidates, students’ chances of gaining admission to the eight major universities have relatively increased. However, the wave of emigration has led to the loss of some high-achieving students, thereby affecting the distribution of top-performing students.
