01 Hong Kong University of Science and Technology 2025 DSE Admission Score Overview
Here are the DSE admission score requirements for some of HKUST’s popular programs in 2025, for your reference:
02 Analysis of Scorelines for Popular Majors
(1) Science and Engineering Majors
The Large Category of Science Group A (JS5102) and Group B (JS5103) remain the lower-scoring options within the science stream, with median scores of 33.13 and 33.38 points respectively—equivalent to roughly Level 5 per subject on average.
The score for the Science program extending Artificial Intelligence (JS5181) remains stable, while the scores for newly established engineering majors related to artificial intelligence are relatively high, for example:
· Computer Engineering (JS5212): 43.49 points
· Computer Science and Engineering (JS5240): 48.45 points
· Engineering Extension of Artificial Intelligence (JS5282): 48.7 points
These majors are among the highest-scoring in the College of Engineering, with an average requirement of Level 5 to 5*.
(2) Business-related majors
The major in Business Administration (JS5300) has an average score of approximately 4.64 per subject, corresponding to scores around (44555) for the five subjects.
Quantitative Finance (JS5332) remains the “ceiling” of business studies, with an average score of 7.12 per subject—nearly perfect.
Operations Management (JS5317) had the lowest scores, with an average of only 4.39 points per subject.
(3) Professional Recommendations for “Bottom-Fishing”
Industrial Engineering and Decision Analysis (JS5260): Median score of 36.28 points—suitable for students with above-average science grades.
Sustainable Green Finance (JS5822): Although it’s labeled “Finance,” the course score isn’t high—averaging only 4.75 points per subject—making it highly cost-effective.
03 HKUST DSE Scoring System
Students applying to HKUST through the Joint University Program in 2025 must meet the university’s minimum admission requirements for core and elective subjects, which stipulate a minimum score of (332A33) in four core subjects and two elective subjects.
HKUST uses the following grade-to-score conversion: 5** = 8.5, 5* = 7, 5 = 5.5, 4 = 4, 3 = 3.
In addition, students who take more than two elective courses can also receive additional point rewards, with the specific rules as follows:
