03 2026 | Admission scoring criteria continue to be optimized
In the 2026 Joint Admissions Exercise, HKU not only continues to employ the subject-weighting mechanism but also applies it in a more refined and diversified manner, setting out specific scoring strategies tailored to the academic requirements of different disciplines. Applicants must carefully review the detailed scoring formulas and subject requirements for their preferred programs when planning their course selections and preparing for the exams, so as to maximize their competitiveness for admission.
For example:
Engineering programs (such as the 6303 Bachelor of Engineering Elite Program):
Scoring formula: English + Mathematics + Best Three Subjects
It is also strongly recommended that candidates achieve Level 3 or above in the Extended Mathematics (M1/M2) component.
Bachelor of Science (6901):
Scoring formula: English + Mathematics × 1.5 + Best Science Subject × 1.5 + Best of the Remaining Two Subjects
Assign a 1.5x weighting to mathematics and the best science subjects.
Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science (Applied Artificial Intelligence) (6224):
Scoring formula: English × 2 + Mathematics × 2 + M1/M2 × 2 + Best two subjects
Core mathematics and science subjects have been given double weighting.
